The Bears Ears Partnership works to protect both the lands and cultural resources of the greater Bears Ears ecosystem – ancestral home to multiple Pueblo civilizations, and present home to five tribes. OE conducted an equity study for the organization and then placed its present Executive Director. Attracting and retaining Indigenous leadership was part of our brief, and progress in this regard has been transformational.
This is a complex land that requires an equitable balance among many dynamics. Many people and companies depend upon this land to make a living, and it also contains irreplaceable and sacred cultural riches. Today, the Partnership operates out of a 50-acre traditional knowledge institute and is becoming a crucial convener among the tribes, governmental agencies, conservation organizations, and local companies.
